Valentine’s Day

Love is what every human being longs for. Life without love is like a tree without blossoms or fruits. Love helps us to overcome every hate and every evil. Valentine’s Day is all about love and love stories that make people feel more special.

True Story of Valentine’s Day:

Saint Valentinus was a Christian and he had strong belief in Christian ethics mentioned in the Bible. He was a person of Love. During his time, Christians were persecuted by Roman Emperor Claudius II for following Jesus Christ. Valentinus used to help and minister such persecuted Christians. Valentinus also performed marriages for soldiers who were forbidden to marry in Rome state. For this reason he was imprisoned. While being in the jail, his jailer got impressed by knowing that he was a man of wisdom. The jailer brought his daughter Julia to Valentinus so that she could learn lessons of life from him. Julia was blind by birth.

Valentinus read stories of Rome’s history to her, told her the nature of the world and most importantly taught her about God. In this process of learning, Julia started seeing the world through the eyes of Valentinus. One day Julia asked Valentinus “Does God hear our prayers?” To this Valentinus replied, “Yes He does reply to our prayers in His timings if we believe in Him”. Julia said “I do believe in God and day and night I have been praying to receive my eyesight”. Then she knelt down and they held each other’s hand and started praying and suddenly there was a brilliant light in the prison cell and Julia screamed, “Valentinus I can see everything”. So it is said Julia was taught by Valentinus and received her healing through him.

On the eve of his death Valentinus wrote a last note to Julia, urging her to stay close to God.   He signed it, "From your Valentine."  His sentence was carried out the next day, February 14, 270 A.D., near a gate that was later named Porta Valentini in his memory. He was buried at what is now the Church of Praxedes in Rome.   It is said that Julia planted a pink-blossomed almond tree near his grave.   Today, the almond tree remains a symbol of abiding love and friendship.   On each February 14, Saint Valentine's Day, messages of affection, love, and devotion are exchanged around the world."

Celebration:

Valentine’s Day is celebrated every year on 14th February. On this day people meet their loved ones and spend a lot of money on buying them a Valentine’s gift. In many eastern countries even church services are held thus celebrating the feast of Saint Valentinus. This day is meant to be celebrated by couples in love but it actually speaks of love in every relationship. So love because Love is the only feeling that keeps every relationship alive and ongoing.
